Teaches combat-oriented handling and marksmanship skills using a tactical rifle and pistol.

Course Description

This is your opportunity to learn the high-performance shooting skills necessary to get accurate rounds on target faster, in the modern, up close and personal, Close Quarters Combat (CQC) environment.  Using both a tactical rifle and pistol, learn the techniques of hitting close range targets quickly and confidently.  This in-depth course includes instruction and drills designed to give you the fundamental skills to enhance success in combat , in competition, and in personal defense, at CQC distances under 30m.

This course is approximately 8-hours long and consists of range time learning to operate a tactical rifle and pistol under field conditions on the range. Students learn:

  • Weapons safety
  • Safe weapons clearing procedures
  • Loading procedures
  • Range commands
  • Combat mindset
  • Rifle marksmanship fundamentals
  • Sling usage
  • Combat rifle manipulation
  • Kit selection and setup
  • Weapons reloading procedures
  • Clearing weapons malfunctions
  • Alternate firing positions
  • Barricade/cover shooting
  • Strong/weak shoulder transition
  • Rifle-to-pistol transition
  • Team verbal communications
  • Shooting while moving in buddy pairs

Students do not take a formal examination.

Course Prerequisites

Students must satisfy these requirements, in order to be allowed to attend the course.  Exceptions will be made at the sole discretion of the lead instructor, and with prior arrangement only.

  • This course is designed for beginner to intermediate students.
  • Proof of previous firearm safety instruction (e.g. completion of an NRA basic class, possession of a concealed carry permit, etc.)
  • Minimum 18 years of age:  This course includes mature topics, including discussion about the use of firearms against human beings.

Course Packing List

Participation requires that the student provide the following equipment, which is not included in the cost of the course. Students who arrive without a piece of non-optional equipment listed below will be asked to leave, may be unable to participate in certain sections of instruction, or may be able to purchase suitable replacements on the premises, at our sole discretion. Students should pack:

  • Rifle
    • Tactical rifle (e.g. AR-15 style, Kalishnikov platform)
    • 300 rounds of factory rifle ammunition - absolutely no reloads (MINIMUM)
    • Rifle sling (attached)
    • 4 rifle magazines (MINIMUM)
  • Pistol
    • Semi-automatic pistol, magazine fed, caliber 9mm and up
    • 60 rounds of factory pistol ammunition - absolutely no reloads (MINIMUM)
    • Holster (no shoulder, ankle, or small-of-back hosters)
    • 2 pistol magazines (MINIMUM)
  • Fighting load carrying equipment
    • Plate carrier, chest harness, battle belt, or other carrier
    • Rifle magazine pouches (carry minimum 2 magazines, total 30+ rounds, on body)
    • Pistol magazine pouches (carry minimum 2 magazines, total 20+ rounds, on body)
  • An open mind
  • Pen & Paper
  • Protective eyewear
  • Hearing protection
  • Pants (no shorts)
  • Hat
  • Sturdy closed-toe shoes - no flip-flops or sandals
  • Clothing appropriate for season/weather outdoors
  • Cleaning kits for your firerarms

Minimum Class Size Requirement

Due to the logistical efforts required to conduct this course, a minimum of 8 students must be registered and pre-paid, as of 72 hours before the scheduled time and date, for the course to be held.  If this minimum requirement can not be met, the course will be rescheduled to a future date.
